One of my goals was to attend a hot air balloon festival this year. There was a festival in October in a town about 40 miles away. The day I’d planned to attend, balloons were grounded due to conditions being too windy. The picture shown is from a friend who was able to go the second day. I’m going to try to find another festival to attend (it’s still one of my goals!).
Meanwhile, one of my favorite things to do is to watch an airshow. And…San Antonio, being “Military City, USA”, puts on a great one! However, the past two years the show was on hiatus due to government shutdowns/sequestrations. So I didn’t think I would get to see a show this year. Much to my surprise, I learned only recently that the event was “back on” for 2015–and the Joint Base San Antonio Air Show was held this past weekend.
While I enjoy all the high-flying action of both private and military aircraft (this year we saw the USAF Thunderbirds), I also enjoy the benefit of being on a base that allows the static displays–where you can get up close and personal with the various aircraft that are on display.
